Dr. Arty is a licensed acupuncturist within the state of California. He attended the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM), where he earned his Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine. While at ACTCM he also became a certified massage therapist, specializing in Shiatsu-style massage. After getting licensed in 2015, he soon went back to school to earn his Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM). This post-graduate education provided enhanced training in pain management, fertility work, women’s health and mental health care. He is also an NCCAOM nationally certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.
Dr. Arty’s clinical experience includes interning at the ACTCM Community Clinic and at the ACTCM Auricular Clinic, as well as externships at the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic in San Francisco. Artashes also completed an advanced program of study in Traditional Chinese Medicine, focusing on acupuncture and herbal medicine, at the Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in Hangzhou, China.
During his Doctoral training, he worked alongside physicians at the UCSF Pain Management Clinic, observing complex pain cases and the treatments utilized. As a general practitioner, Dr. Arty has special interests in psycho-emotional issues, pain management, sports medicine, immune support, men’s health, women’s health, and issues that affect the LGBTQ community. The modalities of TCM he utilizes are acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, electrical stimulation, gua sha, moxibustion, nutritional counseling, and bodywork.
He holds two Bachelor’s degrees (B.S. in Pharmacology and B.A. in Environmental studies) from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Upon graduating, he worked in drug discovery research, specializing in oncology and metabolic disease. He worked on this research for five years before deciding to move on to studying Chinese Medicine. When not in the clinic, he can be found cooking, hiking or tending to his plants and cat Oscar.
